CULTIVATION OF ALGAE |
Towards sustainable and economic viable cultivation of microalgae
Research on the cultivation of microalgae is performed both on lab scale and on pilot scale in closed photobioreactors. We mainly focus on the optimization of cultivation conditions of biochemically interesting algae, to obtain production processes with high yields. The pilot plant reactors are installed in a greenhouse with an elaborate climate control system so that possibilities of the cultivation of microalgae as innovative activity for horticulture can be examined. Moreover, research is performed to enhance the economic feasibility and sustainability of the production process, like utilization of CO2 and wastewater, and the recycling of the culture media. The photobioreactors are equipped with specialized measuring devices so that they are well suited for practice-oriented research.
